There is a place in SL on the lines of tower of prims, name escapes me. There's a Scripters forum. Is there a Builders one too? |

ok yes im new! lol hows the best way to learn how to build? is there a way i can do it out of 2nd life? thanks I think there is an "offline builder" program now, although I don't know that much about it. The usual starting point for learning to build is to visit the in-world classes. Search for "the ivory tower library of primitives" and teleport there for a static building tutorial, and there are also classes on building at places like "New citizens inc", "The learning center" and "teazers" (those are all searchable). As far as actually building goes there seem to be two schools - people who create prims and fiddle around with them and see where they go and then develop it, and people who design an entire build in their imagination and then try to reproduce it. People in the second group sometimes get disappointed if they can't reproduce something exactly how they wanted it, but people in the first group never know what they're going to build today. Try both. ![]() |

Well, here are some starter places to learn some things about building in Second Life.
This link comes from the Knowlede Base. http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/category.php?id=24 Here is the designated forum for building questions and observation. /8/1.html When you are in world, if you press the F1 button a window will pop up containing some information about building. Also while in world you can press the search button, click on the events tab, and type in education. A list will appear showing scheduled free classes for building and scripting. |

Welcome to SL!
If you have already left Help island then proceed to Ivory Tower of Primitives for a step by step tutorial on how to build, their are plenty of schools noobie organizations eager to help, the # 1 rule to getting ahead in SL is reading, it's great that you have come to the forums for answers, remember that their have been hundreds of thousands in your same shoes asking the same questions so many of those inquiries have already been answered be sure to catch up on your reading and you'll be up to speed in no time. If your ever stuck I'd be glad to lend a hand just IM me in game (Ctrl-F for a search feature, click on the people tab, and enter my name in the box, select on my name and choose IM) if I'm not on at the moment it will be saved and I will get it when I log on (Usually US eastern evenings) Good Luck! |

Here's another vote for the Ivory Tower tutorials. They are absolutely a great way to learn how work with prims.
And don't miss Robin Sojourner's Texture tutorial, which is also a must read for SL builders. |
