Start with the LindeX:
https://secondlife.com/currency/buy.php After perusing the rates at the LindeX then compare to the rates at other 3rd party currency exchanges. |

There isn't going to be a big difference between the exchanges. Any difference that does exist can be explained by the fees incurred during the transaction (and any subsequent transaction that might take place by taking the L$ to another exchange). People would exploit any differences in exchange rates to their advantage; which would result in the exchange rates equalizing until it was no longer profitable.

Use the limit buy option on the LindeX: look at the lowest outstanding buy order, then figure whether you can wait for the current volume to sell or, just buy at L$1 below that.
If you buy L$ now, you'll be buying against a L$266/$1 exchange rate where as my buy for L$277/$1 was filled in just 20 seconds. It won't make a huge difference but it's still more L$ for your $ (or less $ for the same L$) ![]() |

I used to always buy 6000 Lindens at one shot. That usually always costed slightly over US $20.00.
Now, for US$20.00 you'll get almost 800 LESS lindens. 800 less. About 5225 is what you'll now get. And this is from the sl, the game itself. I don't know who makes up these prices since if you look at the stats you don't understand all the mumbo jumbo they always write in that place. But this is ridiculous. Attendance in sl has more then doubled, yet instead of it's residents getting more, we're getting a whole lot less. And you know this ain't right. Go figure. |

I remember buying at close to L$350/1 when I just started
![]() ![]() The problem (in my view) with the default buying method is that it favours those selling L$ and serves as a downward push (less L$ per $) because you're buying at the rate they're collectively setting. If noone used the default buying method and opted for limit buys instead, you'd have the opposite world (with the advantage that they're more needing to sell than you're needing to buy because most selling probably have tier that's due soon). I don't pretend to understand but: Best buying rate: L$267 / US$1.00 Best selling rate: L$278 / US$1.00 If you use a limit buy of L$277 / $1 your order will get filled first since it's less than any other outstanding buy order and you get L$277 * 20 = L$ 5540. L$ 200 extra isn't anything to write home about, but it's close to 4% more L$ worth none the less ![]() |

Attendance in sl has more then doubled, yet instead of it's residents getting more, we're getting a whole lot less. And you know this ain't right. Go figure. The LindeX is a market (specifically, a currency market). Markets bring buyers and sellers together, in this case, residents who wish to sell their Linden dollars (sellers) and residents who wish to buy Linden dollars (buyers). The prices aren't made up. It's what the seller of that particular block of Linden dollars is willing to accept to complete the trade. The buyer is under no obligation to pay the price the seller wants as the buyer can simply not make the trade and go without the Linden dollars or wait for a seller to come down in price. Markets are never right or wrong. They are simply markets. |

can you explain the limit buy again? i looked on the lindeX but i didnt see a limit buy option. Go to your Account Summary page, and in the right column click the "Currency Exchange Settings" link. On the page that comes up, check the "Advanced" button. Then when you go to the Lindex buy/sell pages, you get the limit buy/sell options. |

10,000L / $40 gives an exhange rate of 250L per $1. The average exchange rate yesterday on LindeX was 268L per $1. I'd say LindeX is the better deal than the described ebay sale.

I checked out the Lindens for sale at ebay and those prices are ridiculously high. I agree Linden sells them cheaper then ebay but still the games prices are still really bad. Compare to how it was a few months back, these game prices have gotten way out of hand considering the more then doubled the population here now.
They seem to work it backwards, the more people, the less you get. And all it does in the long run is keep people away from buying. I for one don't buy like I used to and I'll keep buying less and less 'til I leave. |

If you think L$ are expensive now, just imagine what they would be going for if LL wasn't pumping in large quantities of currency every day via LindeX, stipends, and sign-up bonuses (bonusi?).

I for one don't buy like I used to and I'll keep buying less and less 'til I leave. The vast bulk of the increase in the total resident population has been in the form of free Basic accounts which get no weekly stipend and thus do not inject new currency into circulation They instead increase demand for Linden dollars which are already in circulation. Linden Lab does not determine the price that sellers must trade their Linden dollars at. The individual sellers set their price. |
