Not sure this is the right place to ask but here goes (dons his tin hat). I am planning on building a small number of rental homes and I'm trying to plan around possible pitfalls. As residents will obviously have the ability to drop or create objects, it occurs to me that they could also istall a security orb. This in itself doesn't bother me but what happens if one of my renters should leave and forget to take their security device with them, how on earth can I get back into the property ? I should add that the homes will already have the usual secure doors and so on pre-installed.

Make as part of the covenant (terms of renting) you have to be on the access list, if not an admin on the security orb. As a last resort just return all of that person's items if you can't get on, but the suggestion should fix that.

Returning object seems the obvious way, but as far as I can see it is only possible to do a parcel wide return and I was planning on four homes on an 8K plot with a communal area. As far as as a covenant goes, thanks - good idea, BUT it's not enforceable in this situation.

In the event a tennant sets up an orb that ejects you (or attacks other tennants), you can stand somewhere safe and use camera controls to look in, find the orb, right click and return.

Why not setup your own 'home security device' as part of the build and give them access rights? They can turn it on and off, add names etc.. but you have overall control? It could represent a good feature as part of the let/rent deal?

i`d just split it up into 4 plots
u can see who has how many prims on their home control independent land options each have a different media url (sound/movie) orbs security stays within their border instead of the entire land easier to manage independent plots u still have total prim of all 4 plots like it`s 1 large different name/description for listing(if needed)

This in itself doesn't bother me but what happens if one of my renters should leave and forget to take their security device with them, how on earth can I get back into the property ? I should add that the homes will already have the usual secure doors and so on pre-installed. The LSL scanning of orbs can not extend past 96m (if it goes beyond this, it is with relays, which is another prim). Used the CLIENT menu and select "Disable Camera Restraints" (CTRL+ALT+SHIRT+D) if you do not already have the debug menus displayed. From there, use the Alt key and arrow keys to move your camera view to the land in questions (Note: you may have to adjust your Draw Distance in prefs to render the prims at the distances you need). Find and Return/Delete the orb/relay prim through the pie menu. This lets you return that one object, without a mass return of items on the parcel. Another option would be to go into WORLD>>>ABOUT LAND and under the Objects tab, go to the bottom and refresh the list. This will then list every person who has prims on your land. Select that person's name and return ALL thier prims (basically evicting the tenent). Be sure to read the popup confirmation carefully to ensure you have the right name selected. This helps to avoid returning everything, or the wrong person's items. Personally, I would "suggest" to your renters that they put you on the access list of any security devices. In RL, landlords have a key to your place. It's not like you can steal things here. Security devices are mainly to keep out the annoyingly stupid. ~Jessy

A big thankyou to all who helped, and a special thanks to Jessica for a brilliantly clear answer.
