I have an alchemy question . I just purchased some land, and the terrain is sand. I would like to change some of it to be grass instead, but I cannot edit the terrain (it's mainland). So, is there any way I can "spraypaint" or cover over the sand so it looks like grass? I'm not sure what is technically possible here and I haven't found any answers to this question in the FAQs. Thanks in advance!

Well, you can put large prims down which cover the ground and have a grass texture - there are some in the Library section of your inventory.
However, it's going to look a little odd, having a block of green in the middle of a load of sand. I'd do something like put a low wall around it and make the area into a little garden.

You can't edit the terrain textures on a parcel by parcel basis.
If you could edit the land, you could be able to change the altitude of the land such that the terrain would change from displaying it's low altitude look to it's high altitude look, but it doesn't sound like that applies in your case.
You can put down prims like a floor, with grass textures applied to the prims. You can add the trees and shrubs and grass from the object editor, but that will count against your parcel prim allotment.

I don't mean for this to sound as flippant as it probably will - but there's plenty of green grassy mainland available out there, so why not sell the sandy land to someone who wants that kind of terrain and buy grassy land instead? The nice thing about SL is that you can find pretty much any kind of land you want without having to go through a major hassle to get it.

What's the problem having a garden in the sand? I've put a sandy beach in a grassy land I have and it looks very good, I also have some people going there asking me how did I've changed the land terrain, I didn't. Combine the building with good textures (maybe one texture with the transition from one sand to grass will look even better. Check out my signature link to see how I did it if you like

I only want to set aside a small part of a sandy island for a more formal "green" garden with a fountain. UPDATE: Okay, this is what I was looking for... how did you do this, dzogchen?
