Something I had in the beginning some troubles were the pictures in my profile (2nd Life-tab, Picks-tab and the 1st Life tab).
It is rather simple though, you can simple drag them from your inventory to "frame" for the pictures in your profile. Morwen. |

Off that tangent, what pixel size do profile pics need to be to not get squished? From the comment above, I'm guessing straight snapshots will work, but what if you want to use a pic from somewhere else or an edited snapshot?

Off that tangent, what pixel size do profile pics need to be to not get squished? From the comment above, I'm guessing straight snapshots will work, but what if you want to use a pic from somewhere else or an edited snapshot? Profile images are displayed at 178 x 133 pixels (except for the image in the "1st Life" tab, which is smaller and rectangular). SL needs images and textures with dimensions in powers of two though (16, 32, 64 and so on, with 1024 as maximum size). Means, if you upload it at exactly 178x133, SL will scale it to 128x128 and then stretch it to 178x133 again to fill the frame, resulting in a high loss of quality. I'd keep it a little larger than needed to avoid quality loss due to interpolation (with an aspect ratio of 178x133, only larger, perhaps twice the size), then distort it to 256x256, 256x128 or 128x128 and sharpen it. I found that 256x128 gives the best results. |

 I figured I would be able to find the answer to this question *somewhere* but... Not yet! So, I've decided to ask! You know how you can choose favorite picks in your profile? And if click 'add a new one' it grabs an image for the location you are in, and a landmark? Well, I've seen people with favorite *people* picks. How does one do that? o.O Thanks a bunch! |
