Hi,

Does anyone know how I can print out a copy of the Second Life map, or are there any web sites that show Second Life in it's entirety. By 'map' I'm not referring to web site maps - page/link layout such as above 'SL Forums > Residents Forums >... - I mean an actual map showing the layout of the mainland/s and islands in Second Life. Okay the obvious answer is just call up the map and there it is, but I'd like to get my hands on a hard copy.

I actually don't know, but would be kinda neat to find out if anyone has any ideas.

I made a map of my sim from a screenshot of the map.

But I would not like to do that for ALL of SL ;)

I visited the site of the SL birthday party and they had pictures of maps from various "eras" in SL history. They also had a map taken the day of (or day before?) the birthday. It was very cool!

It was still there a few days ago, although I don't know how you'd get a 'hard copy' other than by copying the texture, saving it to your hard drive and printing it out.

I think it would make a cool poster.

It's also huuuuge. On a mega prim, I seem to recall.

I have copies of each of these in my inventory.

Not sure how you'd manage to get it off the prim and into hard copy, though, other than screenshotting. The texture was not that high a quality, really. Lots of lossy stuff.

Hmmm...this is proving more difficult than I thought. I tried taking a screenshot but all I got was what was behind the map, ie my avatar and the view, and not the map. I also tried your url Livinda and it is the best I've seen but it's well out of date (though strangely it does show the Azure Islands rapidly expanding development - or the beginnings of it a while ago - whereas now you only see that on screen when you zoom in close). Looks as if I may have to resort to primitive methods - tracing paper and a pen - thank goodness for flat screens.

If I figure it out I'll let you know, thanks for the posts mean time.

If you use the Snapshot button, the window that comes up has an option to include the user interface elements. With that turned on, the map and other windows will be included.

In my experience, that option stays turned on for all screenshots until you deliberately go and turn it off again.

Ah yes...so it does..thanks Ava, now all I have to do is snap every inch of Second Life, crop each pic, line it up with its neighbour, stick them all together and hey presto..one HUGE map.

Well I do like a challenge!!

Thats what I did looong ago, when the map area was smaller.

Used "Prnt Scrn" to take a screenshot of a dozen or so sections. Pasted it as a New Document in Photoshop, then crop & line up the dozen or so screens onto one large document.

This may take even longer than I thought...having a little 'stability' problem - I believe that's what SL would call it. I start taking screen shots, work my way down the map, then when I get about a third to a half way down the map; SL crashes. As the zoom feature has no numerical control I'm unable to return to exactly the same size of map and carry on so; I've got start again each time..

Like I said I like a challenge!!!
