I've been told that mainland sims are run in groups of 4 (ie. 4 sims run off 1 computer)
Is there any way of telling which 3 sims are 'linked' in this way to the sim i'm on?

give Max Case's Sim Neighbours a try at
http://neighbours.maxcase.info/ the database is updated thanks to the cooperation of people wearing an attachment. when they change sims, the server information is sent to the site allowing Max's script to work out which sims share the same server. unfortunately, the list is never complete because LL frequently shift sims onto different hardware but the more people involved, the more accurate and up to date it's likely to be. _____________________

All sims run 1 to a CPU, 4 to a server, whether they're mainland or private. The only exception is openspace sims which run 4 to a CPU, 16 to a server.
The way the sims are designed is that each sim can come up on any given server. When a sim crashes, it may be due to a hardware problem, or some other error that requires human interaction in which case the sim will come back up on any other available server. Attempting to restrict sims to a certain server would probably cause more problems than it would solve, although it's likely that sims are limited to the datacenter they're in (a SF hosted sim probably won't ever come up in Texas after a restart). |
