I am wondering if there is any way to have an automated thing that invites people to a group when the land on the sim?

Any help with either a script or advice on where to find such a thing would be appreciated.

I am fairly sure it can be done, as I have arrived at clubs before, and on arrival have been offered membership in their VIP group. Either that was automated, or the host/DJ was VERY attentive to people arriving, even though I was not in the main room of the club yet! I was still down in the merchant area, one floor lower.

As to HOW such a greeter could be coded, I don't know. But knowing it's possible is the largest part of any coding efort, isn't it?

I don't believe there are any LSL functions for inviting someone to a group. (LSL group functions are listed here.)

An alternative would be to set up a notecard giver that handed out a note to visitors explaining how to join the group. Ideally it would be a smart giver that didn't spam frequent visitors every time they ported in. I wrote such a script and can send you an updateable giver if you like. Please send me an IM in-world if you're interested. (I won't remember otherwise.)

Wildefire is probably correct there. It's been a while since I was at the club where I got that invitation, and possibly it was a notecard that I recieved, and not a direct invitation.

Many clubs do this manually. Its one of the jobs of 'host', 'dj', or 'dancer.'
They see you enter (or are IM'd by a 'bot).
They open up the Groups Interface, select your name, and send you an invite to join.

I've looked and looked and looked for a way to automate the 'invite' process...and I can't figure it out. (I'm not trying to sign them up automatically, just to INVITE them.)

I seem to recall that this WAS possible in earlier versions of SL. And that when the GROUPS changes were made (was it in June 06?) to the interface, the ability to script the invite was dropped.

Some sims present Guests with a Notecard, and On the notecard is a Floating titler they can wear. The notecard contains a request to wear it. It works for the Most Part, but doesn't Offer real group memberships.
