Hmm..
Have you been keeping an eye on the Time Dilation (in the statistics menu) during these lag times, if so what have you noticed?
Is it certain sims you visit or everyhere you go?
What is the draw distance settings you have set up?
How much bandwidth do you have dedicated to SL in the settings?
When did you last clear your SL Cache settings?
These are some things that might help. Lag has improved tons for me in the last couple updates but maybe I am just blessed by the SL gods. lol.

I've noticed that when the disk cache is fragmented, the client is slow. I would recommend checking out your client settings as Macphisto recommends as well.
Your anti-virus may also contributing to lag.
With the latest releases I have actualy seen frame rates go up (alot).

I got a massive bump in frame rate with 1.10 that I'm still enjoying.

Agreed the frame rates have improved. Has stability though? Keep in mind , when I say improved, I mean improved over the horror they had degraded to. Stability is another issue entirely. I have seen what appears to be lag (not slow frames or "stop motion stills" in a basicly statistic wise, healthy sim. Healthy of course being the standard for the current instable state the sims are. Incidents of slow, rubberband, or " molassas" movement, edits that undo themselves, actions, clothing, and/or attachments that are intermittently saved ( tricky to explain, imagine in this order putting on a pair of shoes, taking off a hud, moving a flowerpot across the room, and putting on a shirt... and relogging because the shirt wont rez at all, coming back to no shoes, hud removed, flower pot still in its original location, and shirt on). The Bug is still there. The last two patches have helped a little, leading to slightly more stabile image time and frame time, but the fluctuation is still there, just less often. However, an intermittent increase in script perf has been noted , when land was set to group scripts only and it rose well above the known avg baseline. Also the Arrival of an avatar still invariably brings a sim to its knees. Dropping FPS and Time Tine Dilation most notable among others to near zero. Sims still require frequent resets, or at the least seem to require it as once they lose stability it is an inevitable downward spiral to near crash statistics or even the big boot. Now when I say boot, I mean boot, these are no ordinary every day(is this not a sad state of affairs that it can be related to such regularity) run-of-the-mill sim crashes. As a matter of fact, after thinking about it, and polling a few of my staff and other regulars to the isle, I can not honestly say that I have seen one normal log you out grey-screen-with-a-ding crash. They have all been mysteriously silent and covert. Resulting in a red map or in at least one case, the only symptom visible was being frozen in your current coordinate, and of course the inability to print chat up to the viewer on say.
If it would be any help at all in finding the bugs and solving them to analyze or test in a busy sim with lots of traffic in and out all day and night, then I gladly offer. Anything is better than waiting any longer than the 2 plus months(two since I initially lost my patience and began regular reporting of problems, but much more time in fact we have all suffered these bugs) for a solution to what is to me, the single most dangerous weakness that SL faces today. As an unnamed but knowledgable and helpful(and sexy) Linden told me more than a month ago, it was the number one priority having been put to the top of the queue by the big guy himself. Let's face it, the sims are the game, if they don't work right... nothing will. I may not be a programming wizard, but I am sure it's not unlike most other human constructions requiring the basic foundation or core to be solid, before work is done on the details and frills. Guess I may have hijacked this thread hehe, but I felt compelled to respond to what appeared to me to be reference to the problems we are all experiencing. Feel free to move it where it belongs.

From: Strife Onizuka With the latest releases I have actualy seen frame rates go up (alot). As have I, now I average about 40fps, and in my own very small enclosed "house" I often reach 70fps. Which does not help, when the TD in so many places is around 0.5 - 0.7, and script time is insane, and images time is abnormal lately. So, lately the "good" places are really great, but they are so few and far between now

Setting up your lag...

Ive never even looked at the time dilation... it happens everywhere... draw distance 64 metres... maximum bandwidth 500kbps... cache cleared before EVERY run of the game... streaming audio and video are off to reduce lag... the other night bandwidth went over 1000kbps.... packet loss sometimes hits around 18-20% lag has improved for me too... it lasts longer and is heavier.... i will tweak some settings and see how badly i can stuff things up myself... lol

They're working on it. I have my theories, but I am not technical enough to make guesses It's always like this before releases anyway. It gets better again.
