I have been searching for first land for a friend of mine for over a month now and the search results always come up with nothing found... Is this a typical SL search engine error or has there been absolutely no new first land issued in while? Any feedback or workaround ideas would be appreciated,

First land is in extremely short supply and gets snapped up very fast. It is more likely there just isn't any than a bug in the search function.

The system honestly is riddled with all sorts of search errors still. I get search errors when using 2 or more keywords way too often.

Either way, it is impossible for people to take advantage of that benefit and forces them to buy land and pass on their first land rights. Wish something could be done about this. She may now just buy after waiting over a month. I never got a chance to take advantage of mine when I first joined so I wanted to help her.

I feel like there are so many application erros/problems with SL that these really important community based feature for noobs get totally overlooked by the show stopping bugs and errors. Hope this gets better soon.

Anyhow, thanks for your comments...

Why not just rent a house or apt while you keep looking? That's what I did and tried a new search every hour I was in world and each time I logged in. Meanwhile I had a home to furnish and learnt about moving objects around and which places I liked to buy from, also where to get freebies, some of which are excellent! It also gives you a community to play in and I made friends with some neighbours.

Searching for First Land doesn't always show all First Land. I got mine searching for All Land L$512 or less and 512m2 or more. I also got it after searching every 5 minutes for hours at a time over a period of several days. When that first batch of First Land appeared, I actually passed, not liking what was available. The second time First Land appeared in my search, I found an odd lot right along a protected Linden-owned right-of-way. Your heart really gets pounding when you finally have a chance to buy First Land, and every plot has 2-5 other prospective buyers hovering above. Make your decision quickly!

Ah yes! how I remember that adrenalin rush as I entered that First Land transaction after all the searching. There really is a terrific feeling of victory. Probably the most exciting thing attainable in SL. Not actually being a RL home owner I can only guess it's a near equivalent to the more drawn out and painful process of RL home buying.
It's just gotta be better than renting ;)
