How to change avatar type?

I selected the cybergoth when creating my account, but I'd really like to be one of the more 'normal' looking people now that I've had a chance to play around a bit. I've searched the FAQ and forum to the best of my ability, but find only steps on how to use the sliders, etc to change the details of one's appearance.

Is it possible to change from the cybergoth to something else entirely? Or am I stuck?

I feel like such a n00b, thanks in advance folks :)

Open the library folder at the bottom of your inventory, it contains all of the basic avatar choices that the Lindens provide. You can try any of them on and mix and match skins, body shapes, hair, etc. to give your self a different staring piont. Then in world there are numerous places selling body shapes, skins, hair etc. to personalize your avatar.

To put a new avatar on, simply drag the entire folder of body parts and clothing onto your avatar. It sometimes takes a few minutes for the change to complete it self.

Just to elaborate, the options which you pick on signing up are really just "clothing packs", and you have all of the rest of them in your inventory anyway. There's no such thing as a "character class" or anything like that in SL. Pretty much the only things you can't change arbitrarily afterwards are your reputation scores (which nobody pays attention to anyway), your name and your bank balance.
