ok so as i understand it, first land can only be owned be a "new player" someone who owns no land in the first place, so what happenes if the new player sells his first land, so now he owns no land anymore, can he buy another first land plot? or does each unique account only able to buy first land one time regardless?

Hello John
Under the Land for the Landless scheme each premium account has an opportunity to buy starter land from Gov Linden at the special price of 512 Lindens. After that the only option is to buy from other residents or at auction. I suppose it's possible that someone might sell you a parcel for 512 Lindens, but the expression "when hell freezes over" springs to mind. However, it's the premium account rather than the player that has the right to First Land. One player may have several alts, and if those alts are premium accounts, each if them has the right to First Land. |

so once you buy your first land, no matter if you sell it or keep it you can never buy first land again with that account?

That's right - hence the name First Land. But, as I said, you could create an alt with a premium account who could in turn buy First Land.
Oh, there's one other thing. If you buy a parcel of land from another resident, rather than from Gov Linden, you can't, at a later date, decide you'd like to get your cheap parcel. |

Is it just me or is any other premium newbie have really hard time finding first land?
Can someone more experience suggest what to do? I have found list in search/land/firstland but the problem I am running into when I go type or copy paste the cords the most it will find is the actual area not exact cordinates so I am standing there on some builder like dum newbie or lost not quite sure where to go. Right now there is only 9 lots of first land for us premium, never played newbies if we can find the coordinates which is hard for the inexperienced new players. In my personal opinion it really stinks when first land that went for 512 is being sold for six times that and those starting out paying monthly have no home unless we want to pay thousands of dollars ![]() Only question I have is where are the new premium members who have never played or owned land going to live who can't afford to buy islands? If I do buy land is the land around it if I build on it going to be billed to me in tiers? I am puzzled and don't entirely get it yet. I am sorry if I sound little grumpy, I am just frusterated right now. |

I`d personally ditch the P account and rent land.
Besides, land you rent from a well managed place has nicer surroundings, who knows what will move in next to you on the mainland. (I understand there are exceptions but this is just my feelings and preferences. Although, while looking at mainland for sale I did find 2 gorgeous green plots with nice surroundings and ocean on one side) However there -are- the disadvantages of renting with another resident, eg Perhaps they are too picky or what not as to what you can set out..... |

I got the premium account for the stipend and as way of regularly supporting Second Life's developement, etc.
If I rent or buy space on island how do I know that the person will decide they don't like me and take whatever money and ban me? I did find one place that was very beautifully that could buy small lot but there is some concerns too about this. Personally I just want to learn how to create things and build and possible have few interesting friends and not have to deal with a bunch of the usual stuff that goes on sometimes in similar online communities. I am really into virtual gardens, small woodland areas that are really serene. I don't want to leave all my building items all over like they do in sandbox land. Just want to design few unique items like men's clothing, find some uses of my offline digital art that I hand draw, possible put some images together for story I want to turn into visual interactive thingy bobber but not sure how yet. |

I have had my run ins with bad management from rentals.
2 people that come to mind who rent out plots who i have had not one bit of trouble with is: Jack Feaver Hiro Queso However I think they tend to rent out fairly large plots. I rent out plots with homes already built on them, others do this too. I guess it would be your best bet to go ahead and buy a first land- Unfortunately im not familiar with that and do not have any words of advice to help your search problem. I did go looking for land to buy on the mainland today........ I need fairly large plots.....Just always been cheaper for me to rent from someone and never pay for a premium account. However with these new price changes and upcoming changes with private islands who knows how much higher people will increase the cost of renting with them. Also many fear mainland price raise is right around the corner, too. |

My problem is I just don't have thousands to spend. I loved Otherland's prices and the land personally would have no problem following their rules but I think they would have problem with fact I am novice player. I want serene virtual place without lot of hassles and I also do need place I can create and learn stuff. I saw this one artist who makes really beautiful unusual small prim cottages and decorative caves I would love to live in home like that or even learn how to create something equaly beautiful but different.
I am not interested in doing high prim stuff thats going to make every one lag. |

Hi FD
Firstly, you pay tier on the amount of land you own, not what's on it. If all you own is 512m you won't pay anything above your monthly/quarterly/annual premium fee. You can find an explanation of land pricing here . That's the upside of a small parcel: the downside is that you have only 117 prims to play with. You may already know this, but just in case, and for anyone who doesn't, prim is short for primitive shape (or form???). Every object is made up of x number of prims. You might have a nice house, for instance, that is only 12 prims (yes, Virginia, there is such a house - it's by Damanios Thetan and it's beautiful), but a small object like an ornate candlestick, for example might take up many more prims because of the intricate workmanship. For more on Prims you should check out the Ivory Tower Library of Prims in-world. Everything you wanted to know about building but were afraid to ask. LOL Unfortunately the availability of First Land hasn't kept pace with the increase in membership, and tp-ing there doesn't really help you make up your mind - one boring green parcel (or boring white parcel if it's a snow sim) looks just like all the others around it. Landlords aren't going to take your money and then boot you out - or they'd pretty soon get a bad reputation, so if you want to try renting - then do so, but there might be restrictions on what you can put up on the land. If you decide you don't want to wait, you can get a 512m parcel for under 4000 (that's only 10 weeks' stipend) in many instances. Most realtors (as opposed to someone looking for a one-off sale) ask pretty reasonable prices. I never bother with the land sales tab - way too overwhelming. I pull up the big map in-world. There's the option to check the various things you want shown on the map. If you check Land Sales, all the parcels for sale will be shown in yellow and in some cases have a $ sign on them. You have to decide which sim you want to live in of course, and the only advice I can give is ask around. You'll pay a fortune for waterfront land, or land bordered by Protected Land (that's Linden land that won't be built on but remain wilderness), but at least you know your rural haven won't become the world's biggest mall overnight. You can then teleport to the parcel. When you get there, if you right click the ground and select About Land it will tell you about price, any covenants, etc (I don't think mainland land has a covenant on it). Do the same with your prospective neighbours' land too - you don't want to set up your virtual slice of heaven to discover you're living next to a virtual slaughterhouse, LOL. If you pull up the view menu at the top of the SL screen you'll see an item Land Owners. If you check that, all land that's for sale will turn orange, while the rest of it is red (yours, when you get it will be a bright shade of green). It's not very pretty, but it's a good way of finding land for sale as you wander around. That's how I've sometimes found land. _____________________

I always recommend buying First Land before any other Linden Land. It’s the cheapest land you will ever find and once you buy, you can turn around and sell it for a profit. First land sims are normally released on a fairly regular basis although I haven’t noticed any the last few days. If you are patient and keep checking I would expect to see more open up soon. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that you can “buy/rent” on a private island and still keep your right to buy First Land.
FD, you mentioned Otherland, I’ve had a place out there for about 6 months now and can’t imagine living anyplace else. The sims are just beautiful, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, islands (and not the flat pancake islands), no ban lines and lots of room to sail. It’s less expensive than owning on the mainland and Dana is a sweetheart of a landlord. It’s not necessary to have a premium account, although I still do. If you read the covenant, it’s really about respecting your neighbors and the land. I’m not sure why you say you think there would be a problem with being a novice player, I was only about 6 weeks old when I went out there. Good luck in your search! |

Otherland, looking for land
10-31-2006 17:55
Thanks for your guys responses. Sorry to the guy who started this thread, I hope you didn't feel like I was highjacking it just trying to figure out stuff too.
When I think I need to just keep looking. It seems like the only land that is for sell yesterday was land for advertising spaces and small amount of first land. About the Otherland site. I researched it compared it with others and I do really like the feel of it better. I just may have misread into something when I was researching site when she mentioned something about none of residents being new players. I am glad you there and having good experience with it. Perhaps after I fix my computer I will rent or buy if there is some available I just wanted to talk to the owner, get feel of area before I do. I couldn't find the links to visit or who to contact when I was in the game beause I am new and still clueless. LOL I wrote Dana sometime this week introducing myself but I didn't have Second Life name then. I tried to find her name in the game but I just wasn't able to find it. I don't want commerical business but I do really appreciate Otherland's appearance and covent yet I do want less populate area where I can experiment with diffrent beautiful low prim content and have my private tailor workshop but not for selling just for fun and learning I just right now I am going to have come up with either newer computer or way to upgrade my ram and video card before I can really active start my second life officially. I haven't yet been able to find land on mainland, if and when I do I figure it out then and if I rent or buy small parcel of rent property I just use it as my second life spiritual retreat from mainland. Some of the places I had scene were there was lot to be sold was literally surronded by really strange looking properties but the other half way decent properties I couldn't figure out the cordinates yet. Oh well I just wait and explore and get to know the game first and see what happens in future. |

Thanks for the kind comment.
I know in order for the game to flourish that the creators of the game have to have some type of payment. While I may not be capable of spend 200 or more a month on anything recreational yet I want to contribute something back with what I can be it my budget even if its lower the someone who can buy a island. I spent lot of time researching as hobby virtual game communities and while I am apart of them part of my role as resident is try to contribute something to make the world or my given community bit better as much as I am able. |
