FORUM POST :
------------------

Today in action :

staceylynn bergman
Avalon Overlord

They sell freebie guns, and gave ppl the description its in cooperation with Powershields and some other "pro" gun and shield Sellers in SL. They ask 30k for a gun and weapon package, with the license u can resell em. BUT all scripts are completly FREEBIE and not modified so that you could say, its a nice try but worthless hehe.

I dont want to start a big drama, but i think ppl should know about this, before they get ripped. Even as protection for all our "new" SL player :)

a notice was send to Jenna Fairplay, Smerk Gorilla and lil. Carducci, we also contact Linden Labs!

So beware and make realy sure guns or script coming from them, before u buy stuff like this.

Have a nice day and please come again :D

further clarification

I fail to see how anyone is getting "ripped" off here. There are open, freebie scripts available for guns and the like. People release them for the very reason they were probably used here - a starting point to create the guns. The scripts don't work on their own. They have to be included in a prim object and that is what is being sold - the gun and weapon collections (that happen to use the scripts).

As an example, take the works of Shakespeare. All of those are "freebies" (public domain) - is someone who buys a well produced collection of those works being ripped off? No, you are paying for the time and energy that went into making the end product - and this is what Linden Labs will probably tell you.

welcome to capitalism. Buy/find something, resale it for more. Think eBay.

I see it everyday. That's business for you. Someone makes a product, then someone makes one too. For instance, Major drug companies, then small pharmacies make a generic. Same item 1/4 price. Keep ya mind fresh and new with ideas, its the only way to succeed !!!

Course My comments might not mean crap, but thought I would post a reply since i saw my name.

hahahaha Thanks for reading.

I think your mising the point folks

I don't know the specifics of this "product" but most of the freebie stuff is released under a GNU licence - which forbids money making resale. Therefore - if this is indeed the case here - the new stuff in in violation of the license agreement - and as such should be taken off the market by Linden.

Or is it ok for me to open a shop and start selling mp3's I make of songs on the radio. They were free - right?

Sl is based on putting value on intelectual proerty. Even valuing free as free. Dissing that is no trivial matter.

Funny how things get turned around

The person I sold to was not even the woman who posted this, and so everyone knows and I can set the record straight, I sold them guns about 30 of them, I also sold sounds and animations which I had custom made - I gave them the name of the maker to contact to verify this. I also explained to them the scripts which they are calling "freebies" are actually scripts we sat and created with a scripter for our guns. We used a base script added on all kinds of stuff to it, and I asked him to sit and compare the two scripts he would see a vast difference between the scripts, however the guys I sold to were very hard headed and would nt listen to a thing I said. I was still owed 55k they only paid 30k up front, and I was selling WAY under value. Our gun store when open was making about 3 thousand USD a month. I would have kept it open myself but I run three other business in SL and have a hard enough time finding the energy and time to run those. I couldn't possibly take anything else on. I think that if anyone got ripped off it was me being they stiffed me for 55k, when I was being a friend to him and selling low so that he could afford to break into the business. I feel anyone who has read the above should at LEAST hear the correct and full story.

Thank you to those who supported me in this regardless =)
