With our huge popularity, I've noticed we're starting to get griefers making a mess of the lobby.
For now, I have appointed more people to handle the banning of griefers. If things get much worse and we see frequent attacks, I will deny access to the mazes/dungeons to anyone not in the Capture Roleplay group, restricting them to a no-build enterance way next to the lobby.
As soon as the new group roles system comes online, (a month or two, I *hope*) I'm going to set up the CARP HQ so that only members of the "Capture Roleplay" group can rez objects in the area or run scripted attachments there. This means that as soon as this happens, no weapons will work in the CARP area unless the person using them is a member of "Capture Roleplay". This will stop griefers wandering by and shooting the place up - because their guns will simply not work. The effect of this will be to eliminate object spam and all weapons will cease to function. Griefers will still be able to whine - but that's MUCH less disruptive than a C4 in the lobby.
I will try to avoid restricting the maze/dungeons to people with payment info on file, simply because I've noticed that a fair few legit SL residents have this account status.
If you can improve on this idea, post your suggestions.

Admit I do like the idea of the main lobby and mazes being group only (although group only access is limited at present to 70m above ground, so any skybox dungeons wouldn't be covered). However anything like that would need an agreed admissions procedure for who is allowed into the group (one suggestion I know was to limit it to accounts of a minimum account age)

age..

well they're suppsoed to 18+ anyway, but we need to figure out a way to verify the age on some people. maybe ask people what year they were born in instead of asking how old they are? harder to lie that way.

Age

Maybe we need to put pressure on LL to verify age for ALL SL members who want access to Mature areas and groups. The onus must be on them surely, to verify that NO under age users are getting access to material that they shouldn't be.
Maybe this group should consider working with all the other sensible Mature groups to work towards that?

As of Age-Restrictions...
07-27-2006 07:26
I for my part, as CARP is a roleplaying-group, do assume that a certain level of roleplaying-ability would be very welcome and helpfull. A while ago I was toying around with Biowares "Neverwinter Nights", and one of the roleplaying-servers that utilized that game had a, as I think, quite usefull concept:
They asked all members that intended to apply to write about one page of text about their charakter - be it how they came to that place, be it how their charakter had grown up or anything else. One example a player who was mainly playing a knight was an excerpt of his quest-notebook, where his avatar had written the daily happenings of a longer travel with a group of other heroes.... Since that day I now that dwarfs utiize spices like ash and some herbs that leaves elves vomiting for weeks into the forests and humans at least for a while with major cramps...
The clear disadvantage is that there is no "instant access" to CARP. No quick "becoming a member". But I do assume that the age-problem will be far more efficiently handled that way than by the current way - agreeing with those writing above that LL won't change their age-policies much. Why I think it will be more efficiently handled? Because someone who is able to write an elaborate piece of text usually has understood the concept of roleplaying, and is thus "mature enough". Because I am usually more concerned of those adults that are unable to differ between game and reality than of some 16 years old who plays in the drama-club at school and reads his elder brothers Playboy regularly and chats on irc.bondage.com simply to test if his ( or hers ) roleplaying-abilities are good enough to fake almost anything online

With the new restrictions on push, we can afford to be less restrictive about weapons on the CARP grounds, though we need to watch out for griefers who use laggy bombs (e.g. excess particles), sim-crashing scripts and abusive chat. As for the requirement to describe your characer - most people won't bother doing that. Heck, even I don't bother doing that. I *could*.... but I don't, because frankly I've never needed to. When I RP with people I gradually let them in on the char I RP over time. I don't just hand them a file on me So... I think that encouraging people to have a short, few paragraph desc of their char would be good, but I don't think we could feasibly make it a requirement.

With the new restrictions on push, sim security system, and group roles coming in 1.12, the security issue should be addressed by now. So I'm closing this topic as I consider it resolved. IM me on the forums if you disagree.
