Here are the 4 options for how we handle joins to the CARP group.
1) Open Join.
2) Require invite.
3) Require payment.
4) Require invite and payment.

We can safely eliminate #1, because we'd be too open to spam and rule-breaking if that happened.

Now then, what about invite vs payment?

Advantages of Invite :
1) allows newbies and the poor to join.
2) allows people to join on a trial basis without expending any money.
3) means that rich people who get ejected can't just endlessly pay more money each time to rejoin.
4) more control over who can join, in theory - if someone is really bad, we can just not invite them.

Advantages of Payment :
A) allows people to join faster (if they have the money).
B) keeps out minors and total newbies (as they tend not to have the money).
C) raises money for CARP, in a fairer way than asking for donations.
D) removes the need to have a ton of CARP staff giving out invites - reduces administrative overhead.
E) removes the need to eject people as much (if people pay to join, they'll be more likely to follow the rules).

Advantages of using both :
3,4,B,C, and E above.

So... vote. :)

CARP is exciting, but will require extended funding. Unless a steady flow is found, the present patrons may give up. Many excellent venues have failed for that reason.

I vote for a combination of invite and a manageable initiation fee. Perhaps 250 Lindens. Anyone who can't afford that (less than U$1) should be able to get a sugar daddy/mommy to pay their way in.
