TP Clarification
08-14-2006 18:13
From another Thread: From: someone So the only thing left was to fly to the last hole (You should really put a fixed destination teleporter there...)and end an un-postable round. We would love to do that, especially where it is needed between 6th green 7th tee, and between 8th green and 9th tee. Unfortunately you cannot TP across region borders.

Work on 3rd green and fairway
08-14-2006 18:15
HOLLYWOOD August 14, 2006 -- Landscaping work around the 3rd green has improved the areas near the waters edge to make for more level drop areas for water hazard drops.

Work on 8th green and fairway
08-14-2006 18:16
HOLLYWOOD August 7, 2006 -- The 8th green area has been modified to reduce a couple of bad luck spots and increase drop areas for water hazard shots.
Says MarkTwain White "there were a couple of points where seemly good shots could run off the green and into the water. Additionally there was inadequate drop areas near the green."
The land on both sides of the green have been widened and the area around the green has been generally made less unpredicable. Twain points out however that hitting long on the 8th hole is still a bad idea as the land behind the green still slopes away to the water.

Pin Placements and Wind
08-18-2006 15:11
Beginning last night (6th hole) and continuing tonight and possibly into Saturday I will be moving pin placements and changing prevailing wind on each hole.

Scratch's course diary

I am going to begin starting a rather subjective discussion regarding each of the holes, starting with them in the order in which they are presented at Holly Kai. Call it wisdom or dog-poo. I'll try to make it entertaining at least.

HK#1 - Patience (or...Everything In Hollywood Is Just A Liiiittle Bit Out Of Reach)
09-21-2006 18:09
HK Hole #1 Strong wind and a downward slope to the north of the island make teeing off of HK #1 risky. After a quick inspecition, it might seem as though the island had ample fairway upon which to land your first shot. However, it only takes a little too much wind, hook, or slice to get your ball sandy or wet. Make your first shot off this hole about precision swinging via good HUD technique. Land the ball on the southwest upper plateau of the island, directly between tropical tree and the bunker. There's a nice little ridge on the backside of the island between the beyond the row of palm trees that could help you keep your ball from rolling off the back end, so you can risk hitting the ball just a liiiittle too hard. Another possible strategy is to place the ball in the rough area to the left of the tropical tree, which cuts the distance to the tee considerably if you can land it there without it rolling away into the surf. Your approach shot has to contend with a higher elevation green and most likely a medium to strong headwind, so I recommend choosing a steeper club face than you might normally expect - select a club 15hms beyond the distance to the green. You may feel nervous about the ball going too far, but trust me this hole will swallow the ball's distance quickly, especially if you meet a strong headwind. Also, the green slopes back to front, so it's not likely to roll away from you too much. If it does, then you end up putting on the downhill slope, which is preferable to coming up short and having and uphill battle. Horror Story: More than any other other hole at HK, it is usually this one that I screw up, mostly due to the increased lag I experience there. Others have reported no such difficulties, but they are ALL lying, I swear. So what started out appearing to be an otherwise well-timed shot turned out to be way too powerful, overclocked into the 103-104% range. My ball ended up teetering on the back ridge of the island, hanging on by what must have been a glitch in The Matrix, before deciding to jump off the cliff like one of Walt Disney's lemmings.
