Jade Lily invites the Second Life community to witness the Second Annual SL Relay For Life and celebrate the success that dozens of residents have worked diligently to achieve in the fight against cancer!
What is it?
For the past month and a half, hard-working teams of residents have been raising money in both SL and RL to benefit the American Cancer Society. In an unprecedented demonstration of unity on behalf of the community, US$27,000 has been raised so far, and it's not over yet! The main event occurs this weekend, July 22nd and 23rd.
12 sims have been divided into 17 distinct cultural regions to represent the cultural diversity of the Second Life community and the non-discriminatory nature of cancer. Through these sims runs a 4 kilometer track (about 2.5 miles!), lined with digital luminarias, that avatars will be walking or running in the spirit of a traditional Relay For Life. Aimee Weber and the most talented group of designers I've ever known have created a masterpiece that will live forever in the history books of Second Life.
While you're there, you can listen to Radio Radio or Spin Martin and his group of live performers; participate in a number of activities such as skydiving, sailboat racing, scavenger hunts, a Relay pageant, and more; check out the builds; walk some laps; light some luminarias; chat with the volunteers; bid on some exclusive auction items; and perhaps donate a linden dollar (or USD ) or two to the American Cancer Society!
When is it?
The sims are open now! We are already accepting bids at Torrid's auction in the Mexico region . Officially, we'll be kicking off the Relay at 5pm on Saturday with an opening ceremony and survivor lap, and going until around 7am on Sunday. Cancer doesn't sleep, and the fight against cancer never rests! We'll be pumping our veins full of caffeine and prying our eyes open until sunrise on this side of the Earth!
Where is it?
The Relay takes place in the following island sims (which have been named after residents who donated L$1 to the cause): Nani, Tianci, Krigo, Saon, Jeraku, Raudf, MuMon, Rocco, Chats, Modhuine, Friga, and Odi. Let us honor even the smallest contributions, because every donation counts! Here's a SLurl for your convenience.
