During the initial day of Forum ResMod, we discovered that the moderation permissions system of vBulletin would not allow the type of permissions we had first tested. Therefore, we had turned off the moderator positions until we could do further testing. We have since resolved the issue, but given the vBulletin moderator set, it turns out that when someone is tagged with “moderator” status, there are certain assumed settings. Therefore, we have made some tweaks to the newly formed ResMod group.
Discussion Forum Reported Posts
In order to maintain the initial goals of the project, and allowing for a degree of self-moderation in the forums, we will continue along with the original settings, with one small change. In addition to the ability to move threads, ResMods will also be able to view Reported Posts. When a bad post is reported in the Discussion Forums, the ResMod responsible for that specific forum is notified via email. The Second Life name of the Resident who reported the bad post is included in the email in case the ResMod has additional questions about the bad post and needs to contact the resident via PM to provide additional assistance. For privacy reasons, no other identifying information about the resident reporting a bad post is given to the ResMod (no Real Life name, no IP address, no email).
Process Clarification:
Also, after the initial feedback from the community, we will continue to accept volunteers for the forum ResMod program (post your interest here). The plan is, after 2 weeks with the initial group of volunteers, we will reflect upon the process with those currently in the pool, add more volunteers into the pool and remove those who have either expressed no interest/not participated or have decided to leave, with the goal of maintaining a group of 10-15 active ResMods at a time. This number may of course grow as the community grows.
Thank you for your patience while we refine this new ResMod process, please be assured we will continue to modify and refine this process based upon feedback from the Second Life community.
