Next week is bound to be action-packed – the release of v1.2 is certain to keep the Residents of Second Life busy well through the end of the holiday season. If you can manage to pull yourself away for just one moment, however, you might want to take a trip to the North end of the world ~ a new part of the world is about to make an appearance.

Six brand new Regions are set to rise on the Northern edge of Second Life…and five of them are branded Mature! Fly around and have a look, but don’t plan on camping out on the border waiting for the traditional land-rush when the plots are made available. These new Regions will be the star attraction of the debut of Second Life’s new land auction system.

First to go under the hammer are: an as-of-yet unnamed private island, and a parceled sim located north of Slate and named Magenta, both rated M. The private island –an oasis in the North West sea-- will be auctioned to a single buyer for *US Dollars. Magenta’s highly-sought Mature parcels will be auctioned individually; some US Dollars and others for Linden Dollars. Both auctions will begin before the end of the year and conclude sometime during the first week of January. (UPDATE: These auctions will begin the week of January 5.)

Auctions for the rest of new regions—Bisque (PG), Crimson, Indigo, and Maroon (all M) -- will follow shortly. Stay tuned for additional details.
