Second Life 1.6 Release Candidate Monday, March 28th
After weeks of testing and bug fixing, 1.6 development currently stands at three serious bugs and about 19 non-serious bugs. We believe we will have the most serious and majority of these fixed by Monday. Therefore, I have planned our first release candidate build for Monday March 28th. If testing on that release candidate does not turn up any serious bugs, and if there are no other major issues, we will be publishing 1.6 to the live grid on Wednesday March 30th. As always during a major point release, Second Life will be down from 6:00 am to 11:00 am the day we publish. We will update you on more precise down times closer to the release day.
One potential major issue is a server operating system upgrade we are in the middle of. One of the prerequisites of the 1.6 Publish is that all our servers are upgraded to the same operating system version. Currently, the rollout of the upgrade is going slower than expected. This may impact the Wednesday target date. Regardless, we will still be doing a release candidate build and publish to Preview Monday morning.
If there are any issues or bugs that you believe we have not addressed in the 1.6 Preview please contact us ASAP. Take the time this weekend to test on Preview and help us make this the best release ever! Feel free to email me directly, chris@secondlife.com, contact Vektor in the Preview world, or submit a bug within the Preview’s bug reporting mechanism (Help-> Report Bug…)
