"There was no teen grid when I joined Second Life..."

The 18+ age requirement has always been the policy for Second Life, but this did not deter many minors from creating accounts. In opening Teen Second Life we provided an alternative for the positive, productive, but underage members of the community who, until then, had no recourse but to hide their age in order to take part in the ground-breaking coolness of Second Life. Now that the "Teen Grid" has its own web site, has received notable press coverage and is common knowlege within Second Life, we don't believe that there is any excuse for a minor being on the "Main Grid".

As such, we are offering one week of amnesty to those at least 13 and not yet 18 years of age, currently residing on the main grid. They can contact a Linden to be transferred and no disciplinary action will be taken for breaking the Terms of Service age requirement. They will also be allowed to keep their entire (pg) inventory and will be given an opportunity to let their friends know they will be back when they turn 18.
After the week of amnesty ends, any minor caught on the main grid can have their account cancelled or, if eligible for the teen grid, have their inventory completely purged.

So if someone you know has worked hard in Second Life, and doesn't want to lose everything they've earned, it is in their best interest to request a transfer to Teen Second Life. They will be warmly received for their honesty and I will transfer their account within 24 hours. :)

It's been suggested to me that it would have been better to wait until the teen grid was open 24/7 before amnesty week. Agreed! Unfortunately that wasn't possible. After the next update, transfers will have to be handled differently.

But I should point out that although we can't provide a specific date, due to the variables involved, it's fair to say that a fulltime teen grid is now very close. We've made some big progress on the little grid, especially in the past month and we're all chomping at the bit to move past what is lovingly, but not entirely accurately, referred to as "Teen Grid Beta".

Thanks to those who've sent feedback on amnesty week, and to the many teens who've come forward already :)
