Hi - my name is Ginsu Yoon, and I have recently joined Linden Lab as VP International & General Counsel. Like so many of you, I am truly excited to be a part of Second Life. One of the reasons I joined the company is to help bring Second Life to more people all over the world, and I'd like to tell you a little about our current thinking on that front. I believe that the expression, creativity and community in Second Life are matters of universal appeal, across any culture and language. I also believe that as the world of Second Life grows, its diversity of interests and cultures can rival that of the real world. I hope all of you can join us in welcoming new Residents from every corner of the Earth . . . and anywhere else that has a broadband connection to our servers.
A trip across the universe has to start somewhere, and right now we are focusing efforts on Japan, Korea and Germany. As soon as we can, we will roll out efforts to other countries. As usual, we welcome the talents of our residents in building out new areas of the world. We will soon be posting job listings for Liasons with native-language fluency in various countries on our lindenlab.com site. If you would like to help create content that is designed to be of interest to native-language speakers of Japanese, Korean or German, please feel free to contact me in-world (Ginsu Linden) or at ginsu@lindenlab.com. We are also working on a variety of affiliate programs that we hope will allow residents to share in the success of international growth. Keep an eye out for future announcements and town halls on these topics.
A note about my other role here at Linden Lab: this might be the only company in the world where dealing with legal issues is as fun as international expansion. Helping create a world where SL residents can succeed in their goals is just as important in this role, and I hope you'll see progress here as well.
Finally, just FYI: My name is pronouced with a soft "G" as in gin-and-tonic, not a hard "G" as in gimlet (or the knives that slice and dice, and are in no way related to my name).
