The web team here at the Lab recently finished something called SLurl.

Using SLurl, you can easily create a web page that provides a direct link to an in-world location. SLurl solves a big problem we've had -- how can I tell someone where I am in Second Life so that they can find me in an easy and contextualized way, just by clicking? In the past, you might create a location that looked like this "secondlife://simname/x/y/z ". This worked just fine provided the person using it had Second Life installed, but it completely failed for people without Second Life. Hence one could only "preach to the converted". Not any more.

Here's how it SLurl works:

Just enter your address in Second Life like this
http://slurl.com/secondlife(simulator name)/x/y/z

People will see a result that looks like these:

Soccer
http://tinyurl.com/fg4vu
http://tinyurl.com/s5m9x

Magazine
http://tinyurl.com/obrke

You can see the location, all the info about it, and just click the link launches Second Life, highlights the location on the map and allows you to teleport you straight there.

And if your friends don't have SL, they can download it and be off to the races.

Ordinal Malaprop has already created a quick SLurl - generator at http://slurl.com/build.php -- this makes it really quick and easy.

Have fun with this and please post your suggestions for improvements and suggestions to this forum. Also, if you create cool SLurls, I'd love to see them. Soon, we hope to create a permanent page to host cool SLurls.

Have fun!

Reuben
