Group owned land is now a part of Second Life -- so the time has come to make some important decisions. Every Group can have a land allocation. It's just like the land allocations Residents have, except that all groups start with zero square meters. Groups depend on members to contribute from their excess individual land allocations to cover the amount of land owned by the group.
Group members can contribute part of their own allocation to the group by using the Group Information tool (click Edit/Groups at the top of your screen, or right-click your avatar and select Groups). Highlight a Group, select Land and type in the number of meters you wish to contribute. You can change the amount of allocation after it’s set. Also, if a member leaves a group, the land allocation reverts back to the individual. Group officers can sell excess land or release it to public.
This tool will also provide the location of any Group owned plots and let you know how many square meters each member has contributed to the Group. Land allocation contributed to a Group remains a part of your land tier and billing. You can check on all of your contributions to your Groups by selecting My Land in the World menu at the top of your screen in-world.
Group owned land is automatically approved once the Group has collected enough contributions from the members to cover the land claims. If you want to know whether or not a Group owned parcel is approved, right-click a parcel and select About Land. The text Sale Pending will be displayed on land that has yet to be approved.
Groups also get a 10 percent bonus on all land contributions: Every 100 square meters of land contributed to the group covers 110 square meters of Group land.
Group owned land that is not covered by member allocation contributions (and therefore not Approved) by January 26 will be converted to Public. This is the same deadline for individual landowners to confirm a land ownership level.
