Intro -

Linden offers L$500 for you to host an educational event. We plan to support a wide range of events where you share your knowledge to help others make the most of their Second Life.

We will support beginning, intermediate and advanced classes. Examples include: SL Basics, Building, Scripting, Texture design, Land Tools, Group Tools, Land 101, Using the SL Interface, Starting a Business, How to use Animations, Avatar Customization, and Intro to Particles. Your own suggestions are very much encouraged.

Qualifications -

We are looking for hosts who have been in SL for at least 30 days and who have and will maintain a clean Customer Service rap sheet. This means you are ineligible if you’ve ever been suspended – before you apply or after you’ve been accepted. Any warning from Customer Service in the month before applying will prevent you from getting support. This applies to any alt accounts as well. Please don’t apply for support from more than one account per person.

Process of applying for support –

You’ll need to send the full description of the class as it will appear in the events calendar for approval. This should include the title and include three things that you expect the participants will learn during the class.

Classes should be PG, free and open to all residents, and should not promote a particular product, location, or enterprise.

You may host the event on your own land even - if it’s in a Mature sim, so that you can boot disrupters. Or use the Linden facilities at Stage 4 - Dore 247, 7 - or Oak Grove 170, 170.

We’ll get back to you within one week to approve the class content. After that approval you can schedule repeats of that same class without approval.

You’ll need to get approval if you wish to change the class significantly or add a class. If a different person leads the class, that person must get separate approval.

Please send this info to class@lindenlab.com.

Getting approved for support makes you eligible to join the instructor group but membership is not required.

Scheduling –

Events should be scheduled at least 4 hours ahead of time. Don’t schedule a class that conflicts with a similar class; please space them so the starting time is two hours before or after another class that appeals to the same audience.

Select Class category when posting. The posting for events should not include advertising

Limit on the number of classes supported -

There is a limit of one type of event per day per location. Please check with me in advance if you have a question about what is considered the same type of event. We will support a maximum of 1 event per day and 7 events per week per person.
The class -

In order to receive support, classes must have at least 5 in attendance in addition to you for at least ½ hour duration. Lindens will occasionally monitor your classes to make sure the content matches up with what is in the description. Please no organized rating. Don’t use the class as a platform to criticize other residents or groups.

Getting paid -

After you host a class you need send an email to class@lindenlab.com with the total attendance, time, date and name of the class. Please be patience, it may take a week to receive your payment.

The future -

Linden may decide to limit the number of classes a week per instructor that will be supported. Eventually, support for educational events may be increased, reduced, or eliminated.
