Calling all Second Life filmmakers and aspiring auteurs! It's time for another Movie Trailer Contest. We need your help to create the ultimate movie trailer to show off the best of Second Life. This is your chance to create a video trailer which shows Second Life in all its glory AND cash in on our eternal gratitude.
Your videos will help show the world everything we have to offer, make it easier to introduce new people to Second Life, and hopefully inspire great in-world filmmaking!
Contest Guidelines:
For this installment of the Second Movie trailer contest we're going to do things a bit differently. We've broken down the contest into six distinct categories that highlight some of the most popular activities in Second Life:
Love and Romance
Gaming
Action/Adventure
Music
Fashion and Design
RL Research and Education
Building in Second Life
Social Networking in Second Life
Your movie trailer should revolve around one of these categories and prominently feature at least two new features introduced in Second Life within the last year. These could include:
- Hardware Lighting
- Flexible Objects
- FollowCam
- HUD Attachments
- Ripple Water
A winner will be chosen for each category with the Grand Prize going to the best overall video among all submissions.
Requirements:
- Your Trailer must be longer than 30 seconds and shorter than 2 minutes including credits.
- The completed trailer must be submitted to Linden Lab by August 10, 11:59 PDT
- PG material only!
- No unauthorized copyrighted material in visuals or soundtrack
- All footage must represent the Second Life experience in a user-accurate manner
- Try to keep the user interface out of the shots unless relevant to the narrative/theme
- By request, members of the Linden Lab team will be available to consult with contest entrants up to deadline date..
- Movies must be submitted in .mov, .wmv, or .avi format.

How we will use your videos:
1. The winners from each category will be featured on our website.
2. Used by our PR team to promote second life to media outlets from around the world
3. Prominently featured under the Showcase section at http://www.secondlife.com
4. Distributed on CD at high-profile technology conventions and conferences.
Rights Permissions:
Your video must fall under Creative Commons licensing. Please visit http://creativecommons.org/video/ for more information on finding the appropriate license for your work.
Judging:
Trailers will be judged by Linden Lab on the basis of the following categories:
1. Creativity and Originality
2. Visual quality (high resolution footage, smooth camera work, use of hardware lighting and other features)
3. Editing technique
4. Narrative strength
5. Audio
6. How well the Trailer highlights new features in Second Life
Finally, if you don't already know about FRAPS, check it out: http://www.fraps.com. Fraps is a movie making program that works great for Second Life filmmaking. (Only available for PC at this time)
Prizes:
- L$100,000 Grand Prize
- L$50,000 to each category winner

o Team leader's email address and relevant contact information
We will coordinate the movie file submission process with you.
In the last week of the contest, participants must show a rough cut to LL staff members for feedback/suggestions prior to the due date of August 07, 2005.
All elements (soundtrack/titles/etc.) must be incorporated in the final trailer cut (due August 07, 11:59pm PDT)
