Linden Lab is pleased to announce a exciting new project with the Friends of the Urban Forest

Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization committed to revitalizing San Francisco’s urban forest with regular neighborhood-based tree plantings and maintenance throughout San Francisco.

Together with three students from the Danish business school called KaosPilots and in collaboration with script-donation by the talented Second Life Residents Robbie Dingo, Dave Dingo and geogeous building by Ben Linden led to the creation of a growing tree within Second Like, which when purchased, donates money to FUF for real trees to be planted in San Francisco! The virtual tree will require water, light and attention to stay healthy, much like trees in the real world. Purchase a tree in the Urban Forest in Siona and plant it there amongst the forest or on your own land. Be sure to water it and it will grow over the course of 30 days!

In-world Launch Party
This Saturday May 13th, at 6pm SLT, please join us at the will host a virtual launch party in Siona at the same time as the Friends of the Urban Forest 25th Anniversary Celebration at the Lucas Letterman Digital Arts Center. If you’d like to get involved in the organizing of the event (or if you’re a band and would like to play the event) please join the group SL Friends of the Urban Forest or contact Jeska Linden. Hope to see you all there!

The Virtual and Real Collide
In collaboration with this project, several Lindens planted trees with the KaosPilots in San Francisco's Noe Valley this past weekend, including the official Linden Lab/Friends of the Urban Forest Inaugural Tree (see below)

“This is not just a feel good act . . . it goes beyond philanthropy. It is something tangible. You can actually plant a tree in the virtual world and have an effect in the real world.” – Suzanne Gavin, Friends of the Urban Forest Community Outreach Coordinator
