Second Life's community is growing at a breakneck pace -- and our Events Calendar is absolutely packed with top-notch activities. One side effect of this success is that the Governor can no longer afford to bankroll every single event. In the name of fiscal discipline, the Governor has decided to be a bit more discerning when it comes to underwriting events.

The biggest change is that events receiving Linden-sponsored prize money must contain an element of competition. The contest must last at least 15 minutes. Lotteries and raffles will not qualify for support. Almost any kind of competition is OK but it needs to involve some challenge to the competitors.

Another result of success is a new limit of one supported event per person per day -- including alternate accounts.

The full guidelines for support are posted here.

The increased event volume also means that the Liaisons will no longer make individual announcements. However, Liaisons will make summary announcements once an hour during their shifts (1:00 - 11:00 PM PDT weekdays, 9:00 to 11:00 PM PDT weekends). This announcement will happen just before the hour and will generally describe the kinds of events happening during that hour. This will go into effect on Monday, May 24.
