Version 0.5.0 buglist
Hello all,
A number of bugs have been posted in the technical issues forum, as well as other locations. The following is a long list of known bugs, and a general overview about what we are doing to fix them.
Cannot log in bug:
The resident attempts to connect to Second Life, and during various stages of the connection process, just stops. No error message, no indication that anything is happening, it just stops.
The problem here depends on which stage of the connection process you reach. If it dies in:
* "Verifying cache files" - this is probably due to a bad install. Try uninstalling the program from Control Panels, Add/Remove Programs. Then re-install.
* "Verifying protocol version" - This is due to a networking issue,
probably either on your computer/firewall or with your ISP. You can try running the program "WinMTR" to the address data.agni.lindenlab.com to see if there are obvious errors.
* "Contacting login server" - Also probably a networking issue. If this happens frequently, please send us a copy of your C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.log file.
* "Precaching" - This is usually due to graphics card issues. At this point you are actually logged in. Crashes here usually mean trouble between our application and your graphics card or drivers.
Bad avatar joints:
The avatar has visible gaps between the shoulder/arm/whatever joints.
This is a known bug with the latest nVidia video card drivers. If you have a GeForce FX, there is not currently a work-around. The problem will be fixed in Second Life 0.6. If you have a GeForce 2, 3, or 4, you can revert to nVidia driver version 41.09 and the problem should go away.
Invisible avatar
The avatar is invisible. The name appears above the head, but there is no-one there.
This was *supposed* to be fixed, and trust me, our engineers spent a lot of time trying. It's a weird bug that can be caused by a number of things. It will be improved, but not completely fixed, in version 0.5.1 (which may be available by tomorrow).
Falling through Floors and objects
The avatar can walk through floors. This is common in the amphitheatre.
A physics problem. A fun one too. We are working on it. For now, if you have a fish tank from Bel Muse, please don't create any fish. Regions that contain one of these fish will result in no one being able to collide with objects.
Avatars "pop" up and down on floors.
The avatars appear to be standing partially in the floor, then on the floor, then occasionally "pop" back into the floor.
This is a physics related problem. We're working on it.
There are, of course, other bugs. These are the most notable. Assuming all goes well, there will be another update within 48 hours which will address all these bugs.
Many thanks for your patience and excellent bug reporting.
Best Wishes,
-Linden Lab
