It's more or less a given that the best things in life are even more enjoyable when you share them with another person. We'd like the same to be true in Second Life, so Governor Linden is issuing a challenge to the Second Life community: "Go forth and create shared experiences for your fellow Residents, and I'll pick up the tab."

The Governor is offering up prime, tax-free parcels of land to those who can bring to Second Life games, challenges, adventures, or other experiences that Residents can share in groups. The possibilities are almost unlimited: quests, sports, combat, obstacle courses, brain games... player vs. player, players vs. the environment...simple or complex...any combination that allows the Residents of Second Life come and play together.

This is not Lindenworld and there won't be a lottery for the tax-free land. The Governor will instead personally choose the successful applicants based on the quality of their proposals. This is a monumental challenge, but the Governor is confident that the creative community of Second Life is up to the task. Proof? The Dark Life project in Dark Wood is a pilot project of this program.

The rules are simple -- create a design that involves two or more people teaming up to play together for at least an hour. Successful proposals will receive tax-free land for an extended period, with progress check-in points. Free use of land and objects will continue or be expanded depending on the success of the project.

Dates, and more details, will be announced shortly. In the meantime, get your mental gears turning.
