Greetings,
Back in July 2005, we started using the InfoNet network in Second Life to distribute Linden news and information that might be of interest to the community. (see /3/bc/54237/1.html).
We're always looking for better ways to distribute information to Residents, particularly systems that allow us to quickly update and centrally manage information while distributing the content across the grid. InfoNet has proven to be a very useful tool for us to do this, so we've expanded our usage of it.
We now have 4 Linden channels on InfoNet:
Education (learning with linden lab)
Upcoming Events (events from linden lab)
Important Notices (notices from linden lab)
Volunteering (working with linden lab)
Anyone using a standard InfoNet terminal will be able to access these channels from anywhere in SL.
InfoNet includes information published and managed by Residents in Second Life. We're starting to deploy customized InfoNet terminals on Linden-owned land (e.g., Welcome Areas, Help Island, InfoHubs) that have a pop-up disclaimer screen. This is simply to make it clear that we do not have any editorial control over the non-Linden-owned channels on InfoNet. These terminals with disclaimers will only reside on Linden-owned land.
InfoNet is managed by an in-world company run by Squagmire Stravinsky, and we are using the service as a customer. We are always looking for new and more efficient ways to distribute important Linden news and information in-world, so please feel free to contact me if you have any in-world news and publication services that might help us achieve this goal. Thanks!
