We've seen a rash of fraudulent transactions involving the purchase of Linden Dollars from Second Life Residents on Ebay. In all of these cases, the purchaser has either used a stolen Paypal account or has reversed charges after the currency has been delivered. Lindens are moved in and out of the system very quickly, using Second Life accounts created using stolen credit cards.

Linden Lab advises all Second Life Residents conducting currency sales on Ebay to be very aware of the potential for fraud. Take a close look at the profile of the buyers account before completing the transaction; are they only a day or two old, do they lack any ratings? These are signs of a potentially fraudulent transaction. Be aware that charges can be reversed even after you believe the funds are safely in your hands – take a moment to examine the situation before you part with your Lindens or you could be left holding the bag!
