After being down for most of the morning, Second Life is now back up.

Second Life's outage today was the result of a Permissions Error that was discovered. In order to mitigate damage done by this error, the grid was quickly shut down while a temporary fix was able to be deployed.

Here's the official word on changes this update from Doug Linden...

"Earlier this morning we closed down the grid while we were investigating a widespread permissions errors involving clothing. We currently have a required viewer update that temporarily disables the Appearance -> Save As and Make Outfit features, which will prevent permissions errors from occurring. We are working on a fix for these errors, and hope to have it available early in the week. We do not anticipate that this bug fix will require more grid downtime or a forced update."
