The Secrets of Operation HIPPO – Revealed!
Working under a cloak of absolute secrecy, the engineers at Linden Lab have developed a highly advanced and totally experimental device that will forever change the way Second Life Residents meet and communicate. Code named HIPPO, the device that was once reserved for use by Linden Secret Agents has now been cleared by Governor Linden for public distribution! The exact meaning of the name HIPPO, however, remains classified.
HIPPO users enter keywords that describe themselves and their interests. When you wear your HIPPO, or leave it in an active area, it will alert you when it detects another HIPPO user with complimentary interests – you’ll each receive an IM with the matching HIPPO user’s name and a list of common keywords.
Each HIPPO comes complete with a notecard offering suggested keywords categories to get you started – ‘Things I’d like to do with other people in SL’ and ‘Projects that I’d like to help build’. You can describe you alter ego, or name drop Second Life friends, groups or region. Or talk about some of the defining aspects of your First Life – other games you played, where you live. Take a page from the Linden Agents and add a “secret handshake” codeword to find out if the people you encounter are ‘fellow travelers’.
Contact any Liaison, via IM or by visiting the Welcome Area between 1 PM and 11 PM (PST) on weekdays and 9 AM and 11 PM (PST) on weekends. to receive your very own HIPPO. The more Residents that make use of the HIPPO, the more useful it becomes!
