SDForum, the leading not-for-profit organization connecting and educating entrepreneurs and technologists around the world, announced today Virtual Worlds—The Rules of Engagement. SDForum along with Linden Labs and The Electric Sheep Company, a virtual world content creation and development consultancy, is hosting its first cross-reality symposium. Set to simultaneously take place in world at Innovation Island and Sheep Island, as well as in real time at the Computer History Museum, in San Jose, from 9:00 am– 4:45 pm SLT on Thursday, May 4, 2006 – this exclusive event will explore the new frontier of virtual worlds.

The symposium will explore the virtual world experience, virtual economies and business opportunities that virtual worlds are creating - topics will include In-World Culture, The Virtual World Value Chain, Business Models, Monetization and much more. SDForum will stream live video from the actual event into Second Life’s online world while the virtual world symposium will simultaneously be projected onto two walls at the museum.

Speakers include Philip Rosedale from Second Life, Will Harvey of IMVU, as well as Joi Ito of Technorati. We also have active in-world participants including Danah Boyd, representing Yahoo! and Berkeley, as well as Wagner James Au an in world reporter. Virtual world advocates include Reuben Steiger from Millions of Us and Jeff Sandquist from Microsoft. The newest and hottest companies in the space including Electric Sheep, Multiverse, XEO Design, Strayfish, Millions of Us and others will also be participating.
