In response to overwhelming demand, Linden Lab has implemented proxy bidding for land auctions. This means you don't have to be around to battle it out when an auction closes, because you can enter a maximum bid and let the system will bid for you in your absence.

For example, if the current high bid for an auction is US$50, and you enter a maximum of US$100, then a bid of $51 will be automatically placed for you. If someone else bids US$75, then a bid of $US76 will be placed for you - and so on. If someone bids $101, then an email will be generated to you that you have been outbid.

Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders. You can increase this bid at a later time whether or not someone else has outbid you. You can't decrease a maximum bid.

Linden is now auctioning some great parcels to celebrate proxy bidding - including large plots adjacent to the Ambat telehub and huge islands surrounded by Linden-owned land. Take a look at

In response to resident requests, we will turn off the bidding extension feature as we introduce proxy bidding.

Proxy bidding display fix
05-05-2004 15:14
We just fixed a problem in the way the proxy bidding history is displayed.

Before the fix the bidding history showed only the high bids. That meant that if you had the high proxy bid and someone else's bid triggered a higher bid on your part, only your own bids were shown.

From now on, the bidding history will reflect all bids so after the close of the auction, you can see who triggered the higher proxy bids.

This change doesn't affect any actual auction results, only the way the bidding is displayed.
