Steps: Create a prim, select it (to open the object editor), make it transparent (any amount--or put a masked texture on it), deselect the prim (by clicking on the ground, av, etc--but not another prim), and hold the "alt" key.
Observed: nothing
Expected: In the previous build, transparent prims/objects would highlight when the alt key was held down with the object editor open. This still works with scripts tho. I think, perhaps, the "HUD objects no longer turn red and transparent while editing an inworld object" bug fix screwed this up for non-HUD objects. This effect should be configurable (plus the highlight color).
Also, if View > Highlight Transparent is enabled, the highlight is grey instead of red. While I prefer this color, it's inconsistent with the old transparency highlight color red--and should also be configurable (or simplied tied in with the alt-key transparency color.

With alt held down (and "Highlight Transprency" on), the highlit prim disappears between about 20-30m away (and at seemingly random rotations) from the prim, too. May be related to alt-zoom highlight bug: From: someone * Object faces stay lit when focused on Known Issues (non-preview)

I know that there is currently a bug in the rendering of alpha layers, in that some alpha layers appear 'over' other alpha layers that they should actually be beneath. Since the highlight is a red transparency effect, it could be getting overwritten by the alpha layer of your object? Have you tried only making one side transparent?
It could be this rendering bug at work.

Could be, but this didn't happen last build (or pre 1.9.1) so it's something LL screwed up...as usual, which is why I think it's related to the HUD transparency "bug fix".
