No textures showing - at an end..

So once in a while, I love to fire up SL on my laptop and log in from the kitchen table, couch, whatever. It's nice to have some options.

With the latest preview, I cannot do this. My laptop simply refuses to show any textures other than alpha'd or avatar textures. Particles, oddly, show.

Now, I know that my laptop video card is showing its age. (Radeon Mobility 7500.) But the previous version of SL runs just fine, and I don't have the $3000 it'll take to get a new laptop.

I've bugged this, and spoken to Milo Linden regarding it. I've used both the latest ATI Mobility Catalyst, NGO, and Omega drivers. I've played with every imaginable setting. I'm told that this is a good excuse to upgrade. (Ugh.)

So my question is - Am I alone in this? Is there anyone who has figured out how to fix this at all? I'm moving in a few months, so spending $$ on a laptop right now is not an option.

Shame on me for buying a laptop I thought I could game on, I guess. :/

The URL to the example picture is http://img52.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snapshot0010ap.jpg in case the above doesn't work. (Don't know the forum codes here.)

I ran into the same problem though on my desktop. I also spoke with Milo among others and didn't have a clue and just bascially said "sorry your card is too old tough luck...time to upgrade".

It took a fellow USER to finally clue me into the problem. The problem has to do with fog. Go into the debug menu (ctrl-shift-alt D to activate it) then go debut-rendering-freatures-fog. This will fix the problem. Though you will have to turn it off every time to load up SL, but it will work. It is really sad that the lindens had no idea about this even though others have said there is a problem with the fog. I had talked to them and sent bug reports for over a month without anything helpfull (or even had the slightest clue that it had anything to do with the fog)

Another possible problem (or at least very disappointing) is that several features are no on by default and you can no longer disable them:
Disable Far Clip
Shiny objects
Avatar rendering is now always bumped map apparently.

Why remove such settings? It is always handy to turn things off when your frame rate takes a dive due to being in a large populated area. Yes many may just leave everything on, but why not give us the OPTION.

LOL! You are welcome but I am not that good.....if someone else (sorry I can't remember his name off hand...if you are reading this I thank you as well) had not clued me in to the problem I would still have been seeing white everywhere as well.

BTW-the latest preview update is not a auto update and you have to uninstall the preview and download it again from http://www.secondlife.com/preview (I just found this out) and the fog is not giving me any problems anymore. Give it a try as I bet it will work for you as well. It is nice not having to disable it in debug. But hey either way...as long as it works right? :) Oh they also brought back the options to turn off shiny and bumpmap. So you can turn those off if you are in a crowded area and need all the FPS you can get.
