bug: flexibility untortures prims

Steps to reproduce the bug: Create a "tortured" prim by making a sphere, setting its begin and end dimple to .49 and .51, then changing to another prim like a cylinder. Reduce z size to .01 and convert to a flex prim.

Observed results: Although the z size doesn't change, the prim gets longer as if it wasn't tortured.

Expected results: Tortured prims should remain tortured when flexible.

I assume you are sending bug reports too.

First, does the torture come back when you turn flexi off?

This makes sense, since you can't make a flexible sphere. It seems like the code for rendering flexible prims is all new, so it's not surprising that the flexiprim code just ignores any parameters that aren't used by the cube or the cylinder.

A couple of options: they could treat tortured prims as spheres and not turn them flexi, or they could support them properly and add a parameter to the cube and cylinder that corresponds to dimple. I would MUCH prefer the latter.

In .13 I noticed this while making whiskers for my head. I tried dimpling a sphere and then converted it to a cube for nice, round whiskers. Imagine my surprise when the cylinder went from slender and gently tapered to thick, twice as long, and untapered upon engaging flexiness. Removing the flexible state didn't return it to its previous shape. I had to resort to using cut prisms for the task, but they aren't rounded like I had wanted.

You mean the obvious bug report format doesn't give that away?

This is intended behaviour, flexible prims can only be of a certain shape and only properties of that shape are used, so tortured prims will have some settings unused, although these setting wont be lost, and will revert to tortured upon disabling flexible path.
Well, how about making flex prims work with other shapes (spheres at least) too so torturted settings CAN be retained?

All the good THAT'll do. If flex prims were meant to work on other prims it would already be so. I'd rather cut to the chase and find out from one of the Lindens who coded them (like Yedwab Linden, I believe) why. Can you ask please? Thanks.
