Again, this was 'fixed' in 1.9.1.18, and my 7900GTX 512 still won't do it.

This is kinda a bump, because the other thread veered off topic.

I... don't believe Nvidia makes a card better than this? Is it an ATI-only option?

I suppose you need a Quad SLI setup, with dual 7900 GTX2's. :)

Was told today that the cards that would support it were: NVIDIA 7xxx series, ATI x1400,x1600, x1800, x1900.

As of 1.9.1.20, 7900GTX and 7800GS both do not do high detail shaders.

So, once again, bump.

Well, both my x700mobile and 9800pro let me set Avatar Detail to High, but the other two options clamp to Medium.. However, I notice absolutley no difference on my Av or my framerate when I lower Avatar Detail to Medium or Low.

Well, cards that support shaders well, there -shouldn't- be any drop when using shaders, especially since SL doesn't tax the card very much otherwise.

But, same here, those two options clamp to --
NEVERMIND. BRENT SAYS THEY HAVENT BEEN WRITTEN YET.

cue "wah-wah-waaaaaah / badum-ching."

Well I finally got my 6600GT and I have High detail for Avitar Vertex Shaders, however my client crashes when I enable it.

You're probably running Nvidia's 77.xx or 7x.xx drivers. Update to 84.xx.

I suppose GeForce 6200 256MB 8XAGP DDR is too old for high detail? Oh well... I'ts still a new card to me... I used to run a GeForce FX 5600 XT 256MB 4X AGP. Right now the only thing that can go to high detail is avatar shading. Everything else is at medium.

High detail only available for Avatar Detail right now
05-05-2006 12:05
The "High" setting is only available for Avatar Shaders right now.

The current plan is to implement the "High" setting for Object and Environmental Shaders in the next build or two.

Is there a reason this information wasn't stated in the release notes and/or known issues list, Karen? This kind of lack of communication causes more bug reports for you and hassle for us...

Please keep the release notes and known issues lists updated with ALL CURRENT info--this includes minor details like UI element positions and whatnot, too (as evidenced in the "undocumented changes" sections of the SL History Wiki's SL 1.9.1 release notes).

I have a BFG GeForce 6600 GT PCIe 128MB and it's fine with the preview (no excessive crashes with ForceWare 84.21)... No, I don't have the option to set anything on "high" (other than avatar detail, oddly) but, supposedly, that hasn't even been implemented yet so...

Just chill, people; 1.9.1 is still in PREVIEW for a reason. But it WOULD be nice if LL kept us more informed about what is actually a known issue and what features don't work and/or aren't fully implemented yet!

I see you point Eep......and i have those 84.21 drivers. But really the stardard will be 7600 after the update........ I might as well get a 7800??......Strange they always say 128 is enough for this game......but 256 might be the answer now.
Thanks for the infor Eep :)

No prob. I don't upgrade my video card until I can get it for around $150 and be at least 2 generations newer than my current card (which, at that price, means it's usually 1 or 2 generations behind whatever's current). But then I look at how badly I'm lagging in 3D games/apps and if it's really even worth upgrading video vs. CPU (and/or motherboard) vs. RAM. Anyway, the 6600GT should be fine in SL until the next lighting/shader overhaul. SL could be optimized much more (portal rendering, better occlusion rendering, etc) instead...

I saw an AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core 3800+ CPU & ABIT KN8-SLI motherboard at a local electronics store for $350 that looks appealing compared to my, supposedly slower, Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz) dual-core CPU + Gigabyte GA-8I854P Pro motherboard I bought about a year ago for $380, I think it was. Ah well...maybe I'll upgrade next year.

I paid around 170.00 if i go from yen to $ for mine about 9 months ago......think about a 4400 AMD maybe in aug...but with the new OS coming out .I better off sitting on the rabbit tail for awhile on that one. 7800?? might be in my sight in the coming months..........
Again Thank you for the Info Eep...............
