bug: av edit mode too dark

Steps to reproduce the bug: Go into av edit mode.

Observed results: too dark

Expected results: lighter like it is in 1.9-

This seems to change (along with the slider preview thumbnail brightness) when I adjust various sliders (particularly fringe ones) but it's inconsistent and random.
