We had a few cases of this at the office. What worked for us in each case is:

1) Pull up the Login screen.
2) Click Preferences.
3) Under the Network tab, click Clear Cache.
4) Restart SL and log in as normal.

Crashing on login, too
05-09-2006 15:09
Hi,

I'm crashing on login, too. That only happened after I installed the latest graphic card driver for my nVidia 6600. Before that, I could at least log in but then crashed when doing simple things such as creating an object, editing code in a script or teleporting somewhere.

I hope this gets fixed before this version is released.

Bye,
Sean

P.S.: I'm running a Windows machine, Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz with 2GB RAM and the graphic card has 256 MB RAM.

P.P.S.: Oh, and I tried the cache thing. Didn't work.

I have the same system but a 128MB GeForce 6600 GT and nVidia ForceWare 84.21 drivers work with the preview fine. Which version are you using? Try downgrading to the last version--or even 84.21.

I'm using Tweak-R-Us's Xtreme-G driver version 84.56v2 Rev1 driver set based on Forceware 84.56 with my 6600GT, no problems getting in. The problem I have is how my performance dropped like a cinderblock in the ocean with this latest preview.

Hi Eep,

as I said, I'm using the latest version; version 84.21. I downloaded it yesterday.

You didn't specify the version and I wasn't aware 84.21 was STILL the "latest". Weird that you're crashing but I'm not--and on the same GPU. Perhaps it's your card then. Who makes it? Try a previous driver version.

Ehh.. it really depends. Just about every 3rd party driver is based on 84.56 and many manufacturers like MSI and eVGA have Forceware 84.56 on their sites while others & nVidia still have 84.21 on their sites. If you go by nVidia's site its 84.21 still, if you go by what your manufacturer supplies it could be any of the later versions. I personally enjoy using 3rd party tweaked drivers, they've always benchmarked faster for me and have been as stable as the OEM ones.
