... Does "Improved LOD" mean lowered detail, greater detail, or somewhere inbetween?

Casual observations of 1.9.1.17 might indicate that SL is being a lot lazier about re-lodding objects, only re-lodding a limited number of prims each frame. If so, that's probably an attempt to avoid the annoying second-long freezups that SL used to experience when mousing-in on someone's rediculous prim-hair.

I don't think that's the improvement because even with 96 hollow, 4x-revolved, skewed, full-360-degree-inverse-twisted, transparent, selected tori (yes, selected since it causes even MORE lag), SL is still freezing as it recalculates the LOD--even with one of the emitting light. Granted, this is an extreme test (but, oh yes, I could make it even MORE extreme ;P ) but it proves my point.
