I am sometimes getting a message at atartup to the effect of "Display settings have been adjusted based on your system specs", I don't recall the exact words.

What is up with that? I never used to get that. I don't want the program doing this for me, the program's opinion on what my setting ought to be and my opionion don't agree, and the program's opinions are wrong.

This is possibly a response to a bug report I made.

I noticed that switching between preview and main grid, that my display settings on the main grid were modified every time I went onto preview. I suggested that they keep separate settings for the two grids. I guess, instead, they made it a feature. :(

A stop gap solution to this fix is to use a seperate settings file for each grid via the "-settings" command line flag. I found this feature rather annoying as well; it set my draw distance to 128 & disable far clip, which my poor video card cannot handle (which I have ordered its replacement today; and in a weeks time it will be pushing up the daisies).

Same Problem here. I know my system can render bump mapping and such, but the options are disabled when i log in. This better be fixed before release or your going to have alot of angry ppl hitting up the forums.

This will only happen once when your solely running 1.10, if you switch back between 1.9 and 1.10 it will reset your setting on the first login after running 1.9 .

There was some fixes in this release build 29 which made the mapping of default settings to graphics cards more accurate

I have tried using the -settings switch and it didn't seem to work. Does it need a fully qualified path or does it assume the location?

It's been at least a year since I tried it.

I've just been in and that auto adjust switched off shiny and bump, cut my draw to 128 and switched lighting to sun and moon only.... this with a 512Mb 7900 GTX!

Pray tell, WHAT sort of graphics card does a person need to be able to use shiny and bump, nearby lights and have a draw over 128?

Same here, it doesn't like to turn on shiny and bumpmapping, and refuses to enable ripple water so I can choose that which is total bull.
