Whats this for, and what options does it give us now?

Are they going to introduce Flys into SL?

Maybe they are going to introduce Fly reporters that use joystics to spy on us??

Anyone else have the 'cheesy bacon' option in the client menu? I've selected it, but nothing apprears to happen, perhaps it is a future function, whereby 'smell' is introduced into the game, and it makes your feet smell?

The joystick flycam is believe is going to be used just as a random feature for people that wish to have fun with a joystick. I have not yet tested it out but I am rather interested in how it works. I think mainly its for when in mouselook view you can use your joystick to fly around places easier. Another think it might be for is to replace the camera controls for people that have a joystick which sounds like it would be much easier to use.
Edit: Also 'Cheesy Beacon' is a really crappy version of the large red beacon.

It allows you to move the camera using a joystick. I've tried it out with my 360 controller, and it works great. It only seems to work with analog, though. I used one analog stick for position and the other for rotation of the camera, and the two shoulder triggers for y position. If anyone is into machinima, I'm sure they'll love this. You can also set zoom, which will work smoothly, which I don't think has been possible before now. It's a very nice feature. I'm sure I'll find a use for it sometime.

I gave this a quick blast and it's good fun and sure to be useful for the machinamists. I connected my Logitech wingman attack which Windows recognised and set-up, then opened SL and checked the option. I was instantly able to use the x,y and (what I'd guess to be) rudder of the joystick to control my camera. setting the rudder to alter the z-axis and the x and y to control the yaw and pitch (I think) I had it zooming all over the place doing fancy loops around objects which I thought look cool (though in reality would make anyone other than the pilot sick). I can't wait to play around with this some more and hopefully drop a vid or two on YouTube should I get the chance. I'm looking forward to seeing what people do with this.

Now if only it is implimented to av control inputs.
We would be in for some nice non liniar moves from actors as well as smoth controlable vehicle flight.

Not sure if this would help, but there is a small program (which is FREE) called "Joystick to Mouse". I use it alot in SL to move around when my RSI acts up and it hurts too much to use a keyboard to get around. Small download, easy to run, easy to setup. LINK

Arahan, that is some ABSTRACT stuff. You win the 2007 award for Avant-guard Machinima in the category "It even confuses Geuis"

When cheesy beacon is activated, a pulse of brighter light travels up the shaft of the beacon and then spreads outward from the top.

I did notice when enabled, the TP points, when landing, were just as you described... however, even after I disabled it, it didnt change back...

Funny name to use.. don't you think? Maybe they should just drop the Bacon part..

Yeah...so you did that video with a joystick? Great! That's one of the ones I've
watched of your earlier post.

That is some smooth moving....

Btw, in Tacoland, the fellow emitting the endless fart stream has one of the
most amusing and imaginative faces I've ever seen...I'd like to meet him.

Cheers and thanks for showing some Joystick cam work...

Thanks a lot Infrared.

Yes that latest film was entirely done with the joystick cam. It can be quite unreliable and difficult to maneuver with pinpoint accuracy but it is great having that direct control over the camera. I couldn't get on with the Alt-Zoom tools at all, it just made the whole process more of a chore and less fun than it should be, so I welcome the joycam.

Ah the guy in the Tacowood film? Well I know the stuff coming out his arse (which was called "particle pee pee";) was made by King Frederick, who is still in SL but I can't remember if that avatar in the film was him or not, I'll ask next time I see him!

I too felt let down at the utter lack of bacon with this feature, or cheese for that matter.

lol.. I was expecting some 'cheesy' reply.

I've been using the JoyCam feature for the past couple of months now. For the most part it's a useful tool for machinima, however, it does increase the memory leaks, and every now and again, I find myself staring into an abyss and have to reset the whole thing.
Haven't quite got to grips with mapping all the keys to my Logitech Gamepad, so I don't get Yaw and Pitch, nor can I get any accelloration by increasing any of the settings. I use a game profiler that came with my GamePad, which does little to alter any of the in-game settings.
What I do notice, is the difference in performance and stability with different classes of sim. Some are near impossible to gain fluid movement. They say 'Practise makes perfect', perhaps they forgot the SL factor lol..
