No. It's specifically for Intel Macs. A G4 is not Intel. The client you download from the regular download page should work fine for you.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?

I know a G4 isnt an intell mac but it sounded like from the site it would run on both intell and powerpc. Thanks anyway april, not that computer saavy and was confused where it say s;

The new PowerPC client will run on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and higher, while the Mac Intel client runs on Mac OS X 10.4.x. Residents are encouraged to try the viewer on either OS and report any issues encountered in the newly created Mac Universal Binary alpha forum page.

I guess the new powerpc client is 1.9.0?

Oh, never mind then.

Do we need a Universal Binary at all?

Universal Binaries are a convenient way for developers to avoid the need to produce two different physical distributions of the same software. Since SL is distributed electronically, why can't Linden Labs release both an Intel version and a PPC version?

You can make OSX code right now in 3 ways... PowerPC, Intel, or universal. Most are going Universal because it works with PowerPC and Intel processors. This build discussed in this forum is a universal build for both PPC and intel macs.

You are getting a Forbidden indication because they have blocked access to everyone to the universal build, because its a 1.8 build and not capable of connecting to the grid since the 1.9 patch. As sson as they have the 1.9 universal test version available, youll be able to download it and run it on PowerPC or intel macs
