Universal Binary Alpha concerns

I have signed up to Second Life recently but have not yet installed the client software as I'm using an iMac Intel machine and wondered whether I should wait for a final release of the Universal Binary before installation? My concern is that as the current release is at the alpha stage, I may be putting my machine at risk by installing said software. Is a beta or final release likely in the near future?

I've used the alpha with a MacBook for a while now, with no significant problems. The next version of sl (1.9.1) will actually be a UB...you can test it now, but not on the main grid.

Now that sounds good! Any ideas when that will be available?

Could you enlighten me as to what the "main grid" is? Sorry, I am a total novice in relation to Second Life.

Sure: 1.9.1 is a preview version. When you log in with a preview version you are not in the regular SL (the main grid) your are in a sim that looks like part of it, just for testing purposes. Whever you do there doesn't affect what happens when you are in the regular sl.

Main grid just means the main part of sl. When a preview version of Sl is made available for testing purposes, you arrive in a sim that looks like regular SL, but it isn't, and things you do there are independent of what happens to your avatar in regular sl.

I've ran every UB testing version thats been out, and never had a problem. Its extremely good, and i wouldnt be surprised if they skip a beta altogether and just have it as the normal one soon. I'm really surprised how slow they are taking it as it is.

Using it now Missy! Thrown caution to the wind and experiencing Second Life for the first time! Thanks for your response by the way.
