Full-screen image streached, wrong OpenGL matrix

I'm not a Mac user, but have been considering switching.
Today I walked into Comp USA with a USB drive in-hand containing the UB of Second Life - what better to test a Mac with than my most-used app! :)

I plugged it into a 17in Intel iMac and installed it easily. I fired it up and logged in and proceeded to a busy location. I was surprised at the 3D performance - expecting it to be worse than my nVidia 6800 by far - but it wasn't too much worse.

After taking a while to figure out how to do right-click on a one-button mouse, I switched to full-screen mode.
Yuk! The picture was horibbly streached in the horizontal direction. I don't actually know what the pixel dimensions of the iMac are - perhaps they use a non-standard aspect ratio screen or something. If that is true, the Mac desktop certainly doesn't look streached like that.

So, buttom line: major problem: the Mac SL needs to either set the correct screen resolution or use a different OpenGL camera matrix to make the full-screen look correct, instead of streaching it out like those 'panorama' modes of 16:9 HDTVs viewing NTSC signals.
Otherwise, I'll never buy an iMac.
Of course, I may have missed a preference setting or something to correct this, but it isn't acceptable default behaviour either way.

Thanks,
-Cenji.

There is a preferences setting for the aspect ratio in full-screen mode; perhaps you needed to set that.

To be fair, I've never used full-screen mode for running SL. I prefer to run it in a maximized window. There are no aspect ratio problems running it that way, and no need for any adjustments.

This isn't really a glitch, the perferences simply haven't been configured, the imac 17" displays are something like 1440x768 or something like that, it's a standard widescreen pixel size. Anyway when SL goes into full screen mode it seems to default to a 4:3 aspect ratio something like 1024x768. Changing the resolution under preferences fixes this, I have the same thing happen on my laptop occasionally, a windows one, that runs natively 1920x1200.

yeah when you go into full screen you need to then go into Prefs and set to the right resolution or its using the worng one and stretching it out. i had the same problem on my Windows machine before with a widescreen monitor, so its not just a mac thing
