If one was starting from scratch and got to pick the sub-forums for the Second Life forums, what sub-forums would one pick?
The answers to this question should not concern themselves with practical matters such as how likely the structure is to be implemented in reality. It is just a thought experiment.
Although everyone is welcome to answer, I am looking particularly for answers from resmods.

I'd have an approach that was more AND than OR and be able to use tagging with threads, tunnel them, and assign them to multiple subforums. I also think vBulletin has a "similar threads" feature in newer versions that parses for keywords. That would be very useful.

Would take too long to type (and perhaps rant), but there are three forums I peruse that are good models for a re-work here: http://forums.guildofgreeters.com/http://www.uruobsession.com/forum/index.phphttp://www.notebookforums.com/That last also has some form of tiered Moderator structure I think, since the Moderator pool is almost 100% long-time,well-known forum users. Even better, its also vBulletin (the first two are Invision I believe). These are the same examples I gave in the ResMod private forum, btw, in regards to practices and policy example. I still recommend both new and aspiring RMs to peruse if possible (and that last one is quite informative actually as a site, even with its OT forum). You may even find me in some of these... *link*

Well, with all the thread movings helter skelter, I think y'all have succeeded in turning me into a resmod in my head. Cause I can't figure out why one of you hasn't noticed this thread is in the wrong forum.
This thread is about the forums, not the resmod system.
Which brings up another good question. Where do threads about the forums go? I would say they go in general. Others may disagree.

coco Jeska said a while back that meta-discussions about the forums belong in General. That philosophy seems to have shifted a bit with the advent of the Resmod Forum.

I am hoping for some responses from the resmods since they have to read a lot of requests to move posts.
The idea of tags and other fancy features like Torly mentioned is a good thing to discuss but is more advanced than what I was asking about. Catherine Omega has expressed a desire for multithreaded postings several times in the past.
I have often wanted the ability to select, when I make a response, whether my response is on thread topic or is off thread topic. People who wanted to see the thread minus cmments about pie and such would be able to choose not to see the off thread topic posts. This idea too is not what I asked for in this thread.
I am sure there are posts made in the scripting library forum, to pick a really boring example, which don't belong there and get moved to the scripting tips forum.
A good, comprehensive set of clearly named forum topics, with clear and non-contradictory descriptions, should help people get posts in the right place to start with, reducing moderator work load and making it easier to find things based on subject.

I'd also use a Both/And approach - giving more inclusion then exclusion. I would NOT try to Moderate the forum - would have a clear and consise rule-set, and a very consistent enforcement approach.

I've never seen the functionality in *any* forum software, and if I knew any vBulletin hackers, I'd ask them. But I don't. -_-; Maybe someone else does?
