Ha! What a fun analogy. I'm having flashbacks to Psych 101 with Dr. Gleitmann. Phil Zimbardo was a creepy dude.

If you ever get to see the video on the experiment, well, let's just say the video is very mid-70s dated and you can definitely see that the luck of the draw worked in a bad way - the jarhead ended up a guard, while the hippie ended up a prisoner. It's more effective that simply reading about it, to get a sense of the time. Not a pretty picture...

I was once a hall monitor at band camp and noted the effect in myself and others, well after the fact.

No, really.

It can get to your head, but I had the excuse of being a teenager and not having read the Stanford experiment yet. Sometimes people are not aware of what affects their behaviour without the cooperation of their deliberate reason, to paraphrase Russell.
